Catering and charity — a recipe for success

Eurest | Great people |  11 May 2017

A pair of trainers.

It’s Magical May here at Eurest, so we’re focusing on our charity work for our new partner, Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH)!

A charitable year ahead

We’re proud to announce our new charity partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital. It’s an institution that’s been saving the lives of children for over 150 years, and we’re exceptionally excited about helping the hospital in its good work this year. Over the next 12 months we plan to raise over £25,000 for the children’s hospital — and we’re kicking that off with our annual charity drive, Magical May, Compass Group UK & Ireland’s dedicated charity month.

What’s moving and shaking this May?

One of the most exciting parts of our efforts to raise money this May will be our very own MD, Oliver Baker, taking part in a charity triathlon.

Taking place on 14 May in Stratford-upon-Avon, Oliver hopes to use the race to raise around £1,000 for GOSH.

Ollie’s no stranger to competing in triathlons — he’s done four of them in the past. At the same time though (and in his own words), he’s certainly not the next Alistair Brownlee. Instead, he describes himself as just a middle-aged manager trying his best.

In fact, Ollie shared an amusing story to highlight his lack of experience in his first triathlon. After emerging from the swim (his favourite part of the race), Ollie decided to take his time, using a beach towel and talcum powder to dry himself off (to avoid any uncomfortable chafing). Meanwhile the other competitors were busy getting on with the race, and a marshal even told him to get out of the way, mistaking Ollie for a spectator who had accidentally wandered into the transition area.

Unsurprisingly, after that race Ollie questioned whether he wanted to do any more triathlons. Thankfully he decided he did, and this Magical May his perseverance will raise a healthy sum for children at GOSH.

A charity champion

Ollie’s triathlon isn’t the only charity push we’re doing this May. We also have our Charity Champion, Claire Swift, who’s taken it upon herself to motivate her team into doing as much charitable work as possible this month.

The Charity Champion is the internal face of GOSH for us here at Eurest. So Claire will be motivating and engaging her colleagues to get them involved, and sharing her fundraising successes with the rest of the company.

As part of the role, Claire’s been travelling the country with her senior team and holding roadshows. So far, a total of 30 managers have attended and given their ideas on how to fundraise and meet the £25k target we have for GOSH.

Just the start

Our efforts in May are just the beginning of our planned fundraising, so stay tuned to see what we’ve got planned for the rest of the year.
