IN A WAY, THE TWO WEEKS OF FAIRTRADE FORTNIGHT ARE THE EASY PART. IT'S THE REST OF THE YEAR THAT MOST OF THE HARD WORK TAKES PLACE — AND WE WOULDN'T HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY.
Fairtrade Fortnight is an opportunity to showcase that work, celebrate the progress we’ve made, learn what others are doing to promote this vital movement and plan how we can do more.
Eurest’s commitment to trading responsibly — including supporting a fairer deal for growers and farmers — goes to the heart of our business. Our What’s Important to You criteria are all about doing the right thing and listening to our customers.
They encompass a number of different aspects of the way we do business, including responsible sourcing, provenance, giving information about what’s in our menus via our Know Your Food programme, waste management and energy efficiency. And of course Fairtrade.
Our customers are telling us that buying Fairtrade is important to them; and we as a business believe that supporting it is the right thing to do. That’s a strong guarantee that Fairtrade will be strongly reflected in our strategic plans just as it is within those of our parent company Compass.
Compass has scooped the Midas Innovation Fairtrade Award four times now, and is proud to hold the title again in 2013. This year it’s raising the bar, cementing its commitment and going further for Fairtrade with the launch of EATFAIR, the new Compass Fairtrade retail range which includes favourite Fairtrade products and donates 5p to Fairtrade for every item sold. EATFAIR has been a huge hit at our Eurest sites and will go a long way in continuing to fund the work we’re doing to support farmers in Uganda. So look out for the EATFAIR range and help us continue to do the right thing — by supporting Fairtrade every day of the year, not just for a fortnight. Click here to find out more about how we support Fairtrade.
