The magnetism of the market place

Eurest | Geographical spread |  18 September 2014

Walking around the backstreets of Barcelona, it’s easy to get lost in the serenity — endless cobbled streets with bars and restaurants nestled into basements and lofty apartments above, with laundry drying gently in the breeze. For such a large city the peace and quiet is almost hypnotic. But the magic of the place is that you can walk around a corner and find a market burst into life before your very eyes.

Venture into La Boqueria market and within seconds you’re immersed in the smells, sights and sounds of a bustling community, alive with local delicacies. Confectionary is piled high on one side, while on the other fresh fish lie on ice, cool and inviting as you pass. Every turn brings a new temptation: sumptuous chocolates, cascades of vibrant spices, fresh fruit piled so high the vendor is barely visible behind her wares.

The fusion of the different flavours, colours and textures is a feast for all the senses, and to be immersed in the hubbub of the market, with the opportunity to grab fresh ingredients in an authentic setting is one that draws people from all over the world to market places.

There’s a magical feeling about a market, and that magic lies in the passion and love for food that is in the air, from stall-holders, to tourists on a day-trip, to the visitors from a nearby town. The most marvellous thing about them is that it doesn’t matter where you are in the world — from the Marrakech Souk, to Turkey’s Grand Bazaar, to the UK farmer’s market with local sausages sizzling on the grill, and the sharp tang of freshly-pressed apple juice — the sense of excitement is always electrifying.

At Eurest, we know that food is so much more than just a necessity — it’s important to have diversity and excitement to feel truly fulfilled. We bring passion for food into the workplace, so you can be inspired by the riches the world has to offer.

Our wide selection of recipes from around the globe mean that you can experience the flavours of Indian street food on one day, and enjoy an amazing Italian-inspired dish the next. Variety is the spice of life, after all, and we’re making sure that food in the work place can give you the thrill of the market each and every day.
