Vital vitamins and how to get them

Eurest | Health and wellbeing |  20 October 2015

We all know we have to get enough vitamin C in our diets, and we often take supplements when we’re feeling a little run down. However, that’s only the start. There are plenty of other (just as vital) vitamins that boost our immune systems and keep us healthy.

That’s why you can’t just have the same meal over and over again — no matter how healthy it is. Any good diet needs a generous mix of nutrients, so we’ve put together a list of some of the lesser known (but equally important) vitamins your body needs — and where you can find them.

Vitamin A
This is especially good for your immune system, helping everything to work as it should and fight off infections. It also helps you to see in the dark, while keeping your skin (and other areas of your body) in good condition.

You can get plenty of vitamin A from eating eggs, cheese and yoghurt — as well as drinking milk. Oily fish like salmon and mackerel are also good sources.

Vitamin E
This vitamin is a great antioxidant that protects cell membranes. This means you need it to make sure your skin and eyes stay healthy.

You can find it in a range of foods including nuts, seeds and grains — as well as your breakfast cereal. On top of those, cooking with plant oils, such as soya, corn and olive oil, gives you a particularly good way to make sure you get enough vitamin E.

Vitamin K
Vitamin K comes in handy when you scratch or cut yourself. It’s an essential component that helps your blood to clot and your wounds to heal properly.

Like vitamin E, you can find it in cereals. It’s also a good reason to eat your greens. Green, leafy vegetables (along with vegetable oils) provide a useful source of vitamin K that’s easy to make part of your everyday diet.

These three vitamins alone show why it’s important for everyone to have a varied diet, mixing different foods and ingredients together. And at Eurest, we understand how health and wellbeing play a large part in making sure your people are able to work to their full potential. That’s why we fill our menus with a wide range of healthy dishes to keep your workforce fighting fit.
