Why our new boss can’t wait to get into the kitchen

We’re delighted to be welcoming Oliver Baker, Eurest’s brand-new Managing Director, into the B&I family. We thought we’d let him introduce himself, giving you a glimpse of what exciting changes to expect from Eurest in the years to come.

What made you want to join the Eurest family?

It’s such a progressive and welcoming organisation. The people have amazing experience and are passionate about what they do, so I’m looking forward to working with everyone. It’s also a privilege to be leading such an important part of Compass Group UK & Ireland — especially considering how ambitious the Eurest team is.

And where did you work before?

I was formerly DHL’s Vice President of Specialist Services. It’s certainly been the ideal preparation for Eurest, giving me invaluable experience of running national operations and managing transformational deals.

What plans do you have for Eurest?

My immediate goal is to get a better understanding of the business and the people who run it. I’m especially keen to get into the kitchens and meet the people who deliver our customer experience. Once I’ve done this, I’ll work with them to make the most of our opportunities and generate more growth over the next three years.

What will be the biggest challenge in your new role?

I think the biggest challenge will be working out how to create new sales opportunities. To do this, we need to disrupt the market. Consumers are constantly expecting more from their dining experiences, and we have to be ahead of that trend.

So what keeps you going outside of work?

My wife and I are proud to say we adopted a three-year-old girl in 2014, and she’s been an immense source of joy (not to mention a few challenges) over the last three years. As a result, I don’t have much spare time. But, occasionally, I get the chance to hack my way around a golf course or do a bit of jogging.
