Why you can’t beat a Sunday roast

There's nothing quite like a home-cooked meal to bring everyone together. Food has the power to get people of all ages around the table and chatting away.

That's why we love a Sunday roast in my house. We try to sit down for one most weekends because it’s a good time to catch up with friends and family. We usually have ours late in the day though. Trust me; nothing much happens after we’ve all had a big dinner.

The roast we love the most

When it comes to the meal itself, we always go for a traditional home-cooked roast with all the trimmings. Cooking can take up most of the afternoon, but it’s a social thing that means you can share a drink and chat away as you go.

As for the recipe, our favourite is roast rib of beef with roast potatoes (I’m getting hungry just thinking about it). We also have seasonal veg to go with it — including squash, kale (with a bit of garlic and butter) and parsnips with parmesan.

And of course, being from the North, we can’t have a roast without Yorkshire puds and lots of gravy.

Pudding it all together

We don’t forget to enjoy a good pudding either. For this, we stick with the traditional theme — using whatever ingredients are in season at the time. For example, I love picking apples and blackberries from the garden once they’re ripe. That means we often end up with a crumble or a pie to round off our roast.

We all love a roast in our family, but the hard part is when we’re finished and well fed. While good food might bring people together, the washing up certainly doesn’t…

There’s nothing quite like a home-cooked meal to lift the spirits (especially on those cold winter evenings). That’s why we take inspiration from them to create our recipes at Eurest. Check out our recipe cards below to cook a cracking roast for all the family this weekend.
